Air-Conditioned Building for Entrpreneurs

The recent testing times have been a wake-up call for many. It has brought with it a plethora of surprises that has rendered human life to a standstill, or maybe upside down. The unprecedented challenges have forced offices to shut and workers to work from their kitchen tables rather than their office desks.

As we say, with every bad thing comes good learning; this time has been no exception. People have understood the importance and value of living, family, togetherness, in short, all the blessings that were otherwise taken for granted. Along with all these, major learning that surfaced was the importance of having a comfortable and enjoyable workplace.

As the pandemic worsened, the offices had to shut off. Initially, this was planned for the short term, but this virus is stronger and nastier than human thoughts. Eventually, the offices had to announce Work From Home, commonly called WFH. It was a difficult situation for many, and the world empathized with the workers that had to compromise on the ‘office’ environment and had to work from the distracting home environment.

Lo and behold! The scenario completely changed over the coming months. It was long established that the Virus has its claws dug deep down on this planet and is not going anywhere anytime soon. Humans have been very adaptive to this pandemic and have gladly shifted to WFH mode.

What does this mean? What do we learn from this?

To put it in a nutshell, this gives us learning that

  • Humans are more productive when they are comfortable
  • It will be difficult to re-establish work from office mode when this pandemic finally ends.

So, this leaves us with two things to deal with, both of which are related to each other.
How to ensure your employees are comfortable and enjoy working from the office?

It is important because

  1. Humans thrive on social interaction, and the thought of not stepping foot in an office again is incomprehensible for many.
  2. The homes becoming the comfort zone for many is temporary. In the longer run, the workers need a space that is free from distractions and promises maximum productivity during the work hours.

The main idea here is to bring the best of both the world together; that is, the comfort of the home and the workability and productivity of the office.

How can you do this?
Hang on! You have survived the pandemic; you can do almost anything in this lifetime. Here is a list of a few things to keep in mind to bring a successful amalgamation of the best of both worlds.

  1. Work on keeping the work timings as comfortable as possible. This includes going the extra mile to extend flexible work timings for your employees. This may look like an added cost initially, but it will positively impact productivity.
  2. The office should adopt a ‘comfort zone’ outlook. This can mean revamping the space and introducing comfortable seating, colorful and lively décor, more space dedicated to group working and discussion.
  3. Introduce a free coffee station. You can install snack vending machines too. The rule goes by, free coffee, pay for the snack. Free coffee is an underrated but valuable incentive.
  4. One of the major comfort factors of WFH is zero commutes. Offices can work on making the commute comfortable for its employees. Better yet, get an office space in the heart of the business hub. It is sure to be a thriving stop for public transport.
